Statement from Auditor of State Dave Yost
Columbus – Today’s indictment of Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly is the result, in part, from audit findings from 2011 and 2012 by Auditor of State Dave Yost that Mr. Kelly had improperly paid for personal clothing, meals and party supplies using public funds.
The following statement may be attributed to Auditor of State Dave Yost regarding the indictment of Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly:
“Attorney General DeWine and his team have shown their commitment to justice with a long, determined investigation,” Yost said. “This indictment shows that no one is above the law."
The Auditor of State’s office, one of five independently elected statewide offices in Ohio, is responsible for auditing more than 5,800 state and local government agencies. Under the direction of Auditor Dave Yost, the office also provides financial services to local governments, investigates and prevents fraud in public agencies and promotes transparency in government.
