Auditor Yost Sends Letter in Support of HJR 4
Columbus – Auditor of State Dave Yost sent a letter today to the Senate Rules and Reference Committee in support of House Joint Resolution 4, which seeks to bar individuals from writing special interests into the Ohio Constitution.
The letter specifically addresses opponent concerns that the resolution would implicate future proposed amendments and will lead to endless litigation over the meaning and intent of its words.
“There is no sentence in the English language that cannot be litigated by a clever lawyer,” Auditor Yost states in the letter. “Based on this argument, the legislature might as well stop revising the code for fear of litigation.”

The Auditor of State’s office, one of five independently elected statewide offices in Ohio, is responsible for auditing more than 5,800 state and local government agencies. Under the direction of Auditor Dave Yost, the office also provides financial services to local governments, investigates and prevents fraud in public agencies and promotes transparency in government.
