Statement from Auditor of State Dave Yost
Columbus – The following statement may be attributed to Auditor of State Dave Yost regarding the sentencing of former South-Western City Schools Accounts-Payable Manager, Trixie Belew. A 2013 audit of the South-Western City School District found that Belew stole nearly $40,000 from the district.
“We always want taxpayers to be paid back, and you can’t do that if you’re not working,” Auditor Yost said. “’Holbrook’s holiday’ at least puts a little sting in the sentence. Perhaps in the future, judges might turn their attention to the 4th of July and Thanksgiving as well.”
The Auditor of State’s office, one of five independently elected statewide offices in Ohio, is responsible for auditing more than 5,800 state and local government agencies. Under the direction of Auditor Dave Yost, the office also provides financial services to local governments, investigates and prevents fraud in public agencies and promotes transparency in government.
