Vending Machines Looted at Wauseon Schools
Columbus – More the $7,000 was stolen from vending machines within the Wauseon Exempted Village School District (Fulton County), according to an audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.
“You don’t have to shake the vending machine when you have the key,” Auditor Yost said. “This was outright theft from students and taxpayers alike.”
From fiscal year (FY) 2013 through October of FY 2015, former building secretary Angela Spadafore stole between $7,019 and $7,819 from district vending machines. Spadafore’s responsibilities included collecting money from district vending machines and depositing it into the district’s bank account.
Auditors determined that from FY 2013 – October of FY 2015, Spadafore deposited $3,834 into the district’s bank account from vending machine revenues. Based on the amount of product purchased for vending machine sales and profit margins from prior years, the district should have received between $10,853 and $11,653.
A finding for recovery has been issued against Spadafore in the amount of $7,019. Spadafore plead guilty to one count of theft in office and is expected to be sentenced on April 15, 2015.
