$6,000 Overpayment Found in Greenon Local Schools Audit

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Columbus – Family ties and a miscalculated severance payout were discovered in an audit of the Greenon Local School District (Clark County) released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

“Details matter,” Auditor Yost said.  “The ethics, the dollars and cents – it all has to make sense.”

In January 2014, the Board of Education approved the resignation severance agreement of former district Transportation Coordinator Patricia Brown. She received severance payments totaling $19,952, but the board only approved $13,904.

A finding for recovery was issued against Brown in the amount of $6,048. Although the finding for recovery was issued against Brown, it was ultimately repaid by the payroll clerk that miscalculated the payout.

As cited in the management letter issued to the district, Brown’s brother served as board president during the audit period and voted to accept her resignation and severance agreement. This matter has been referred to the Ohio Ethics Commission.
