Statement from Auditor Yost on Passage of Additional Reforms for E-schools in S.B. 216, H.B. 87
Columbus – The following statement can be attributed to Auditor of State Dave Yost regarding reforms contained in S.B. 216 and H.B. 87:
“The legislation approved by the General Assembly today addresses some of the weaknesses my office has pointed out for years that limited the state’s ability to demand full accountability from online schools and operators. While we were not successful in gaining passage of all reforms we believe are needed, these changes will make a significant difference. In 2015, I was a leading advocate for change that resulted in H.B.2, which was a game-changer for charter school accountability. This is another step toward the accountability Ohio taxpayers and schoolchildren deserve.”
The Auditor of State’s office, one of five independently elected statewide offices in Ohio, is responsible for auditing more than 5,900 state and local government agencies. Under the direction of Auditor Dave Yost, the office also provides financial services to local governments, investigates and prevents fraud in public agencies and promotes transparency in government.
