Statement from Auditor of State Dave Yost

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Columbus - The following may be attributed to Auditor of State Dave Yost regarding the passage of House Bill 66 (establishing a fraud-reporting system) by the Ohio House of Representatives.

“Fraud not only costs the state valuable resources but undermines the public’s trust in their government. The Auditor of State takes all allegations of fraud seriously and is committed to the timely review of all tips and complaints of suspected fraud.  I commend Representative McGregor for working to ensure a fraud-reporting system is always available to the citizens of Ohio.”

House Bill 66 requires the Auditor of State to establish a reporting system so Ohioans may anonymously report fraud, waste and misuse of taxpayer dollars.  The bill also extends whistle-blower protections to public employees who file complaints using the fraud-reporting system.  Following passage by members of the Ohio House, the legislation moves to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
